For the past few years I have been making RUclips content because I enjoy sharing my creativity, quirkiness and unique experiences. My latest obsession, Jet Skis, has driven me to explore my passion for repairing, building, fabricating and modifying more than ever before.
Jet Skiing offers me an ideal tinkering to riding ratio. As of late 2020, I have plans in the works to perform a 1100cc triple swap into my 1990 Kawasaki X2, install a supercharger on my 650 engine and fabricate lots of parts with my new TIG welder.
I've never been good at accepting help from others, but with the recent generosity of a few viewers, I have been forced to realize that this is the way forward. With your help, my ultimate goal is to design, build and test parts, eventually with a 3D printer, CNC mill and vacuum bagging equipment.

I would recommend using a jack stand to hold the tractor up and using the jack to lower the transaxle. You can crack the housing at the mount holes by letting it drop to one side with the other side still bolted (even loosely) in place.
I have done it that way before when forced to (working for others). I don't like using jack stands on these tractors. They are always in the way, they are slippery if you have the tractor at any angle and the transmissions aren't very heavy. I haven't done a lot of these, but I much prefer to lift it in and out of place.
"drying the pipe out" doesn't mean there is no water in those water jackets, only the inside that the exhaust touches is what is dried out, you are plugging water injectors, not flow into and out of the pipe.
Yes, I’m aware of this. The jacket was removed to reduce the size, to allow it to fit in the X2, and also because I have an obsession with reducing weight.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips but wouldn’t it be too hot for the inside of the hull with no water jacket ?
@@TheStephenspann27 I was quite concerned about this when I performed the mod, and thought that I might need to wrap it or change the plan altogether. To combat the heat, I have a water injection system that injects into the chamber itself as well as into the stinger. The water that is injected into the pipe uses a flow control valve that does not allow any water to flow at low rpm (low pump pressure) so that the chamber doesn't fill up, but then allows water to inject when the engine is under laad (high pump pressure), It is adjustable, and I have been able to set it so that when I take it apart, there is usually about 1/3 to 1 cup of water in the chamber. It gets hot, but not hot enough to sizzle water. I have run it this way for a few years now and it has never caused any issues. (that I'm aware of) The engine is very strong and the pipe has never burnt anything.
Question sir how volts in mig pak 10 thank you
Thanks bro, I've been going nuts trying to do it by trial and error. 👍
I'm glad it helped.
They are meant to come apart. You just need to know where the snap tabs are and it will snap back together,
I'm guessing they are not all made the same. This one was glued with what appeared to be crazy glue.
What are the boots you use for riding in these conditions? I haven't ridden in that cold, but pretty cold. I mean snows falling but not sticking. Hoping you're doing well now, really enjoy your content.
Thanks for the comment. I use a cheap set of NeoSport 5mm booties from amazon and make sure to tuck them into my wetsuit.
Thanks so much!! I think I was the person you made this for... had me stumped but doing that made it work straight away.
I'm glad it helped. Thanks for the comment.
Any performance gains?
The previous owners put the rear brake pads on in reverse, the outside in and the inside out. You can see cause the inside has a bow tie spring wire on the pad and the bare one goes on the outside cause of the spring wire clip that keeps it from rattling. So no broken spring for me, but the wheel had the same rattle when kicking the wheel.
Great work,,, My lever for the disconnect broke YTH21K46 husqvarna and can't find part number
My cdk opens down did others open up
Informative video. Do they make parts for vacuum pumps? I have a Dayton 7 CFM. It runs for a little bit and then stops and sounds like it locks up. I took it apart and then turned the motor on, it sounds fine.
I have gone on a search looking for parts in the past and didn't have much luck. I feel like there's probably a place where you can get rebuild kits, but I have not found it. Running for a while and stopping sounds like perhaps a clearance or alignment issue. Once the pump gets hot, it may be binding up. New parts may not solve this. It may just need careful assembly... but it's hard to say for sure.
The XP is the best PWC ever created by Seadoo. That hull is amazing
thanks.
use pliars to pull the old tube out. dont want a owee on your digits.
Yeah... good idea. The lip of the tube can be sharp.
If you're not going to clean the actual carburetor itself on the inside and through all the holes with cleaner and welding tip cleaners and brushes. You're wasting your time in mind.
That all depends on why you are cleaning the carburetor. I often clean 4-5 carburetors a day, and unless they are gummed up with varnish (old gas) I usually don't poke anything through the jets. Carburetors are generally very clean on the inside, unless they have been sitting with old fuel... Most of the fuel system cleanings that I do are because of fine sediment, pet hair or water. These things clean out with a litte compressed air and always settle to the bottom of the float bowl. Water will sometimes leave behind oxidation or residu that requires a little poke with a torch cleaner. I used to clean a guys fuel system once a year, because his autistic son kept putting bubble mix in his lawnmower... He used to have one of those mowers that blew bubbles, and thought he was helping his dad. Quite unfortunate, and also quite amusing.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips That's pitiful. You definitely are not a professional if you can't clean a carburetor completely regardless you are not a professional. You're a jackleg.
Try alumaseal it works on transmitions
They make alumaseal that works on transmissions ? I thought it was for radiators. I have never tried it, but I can't imagine that it is healthy for the pumps in a hydrostatic transmission ... but I can't say for sure.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips It's not!!
Cheap made frame causes twist which break aluminum
That may be the case on some units, but that is not what happened here. The front bracket on the transmission came loose / was not bolted in in place, and that was what caused the issue. I'm not sure about frame twist. The front axle has a pivot at the centre, so in order to put any twisting load on the frame, you would have to be on terrain so uneven that the axle hit the stops... only then can you cause any twist. Unless you are talking about twist from wheel torque. If the front bracket is in place and tight, this should not be an issue, due to the locations of where the transmission is attached.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips The cracks are not uncommon on Huskies and Craftsman tractors of the same vintage. (Same frame) I had the same issue with my Craftsman. Both sides and the front bracket. And my frame was reinforced. never had an aluminum transaxle housing break.
@@j.w.3345 Yeah... Husky made all of the good Craftsman tractors ... the crap ones were made by MTD... and there were a LOT of crap ones near the end ( the end of Sears Canada... I sometimes forget that it still exists in the US)
I’m looking at buying a 2019 50Cal with 5 hours on the clock, will used maybe 10 hours a year. Just wanting to hear your opinion if I should buy the ski or not. Heard a few engine issues are common.
I really don't have much experience with them... only this one engine and what I've heard. They seem to have had some quality control issues with some of their castings and the odd electrical issue... 🤷♂
Thank you for the response, what year was that one you worked on? I have heard they have fixed a few issues, on the 2019 and up
Awesome! I was thinking between a 5mm and a 7mm wetsuit. The 7mm is substantially more expensive, so was curious to see how this would perform. Have you or anyone else in the comments had experience with both and know whether the 7mm is worth it? (buoyancy, warmth, etc.)
I have not used a 7mm suit. I did however, return this suit after it ripped after a few uses. I ended up getting a thinner O'Neill Psychotech ... I believe it is a 3/4 mm suit, and it is worlds better than the Neosport. Better fit, better materials, more comfortable.... I can be in the water for hours and unless I take a hard crash, no water even gets into the suit.... I paid over $700 for mine, but I see that they are on sale on Amazon now for only $308 Canadian.
Hello, I have an x2, should I put oil into the reservoir through the cover of the oil pump?
Hello ... I am assuming you are talking about the flywheel cover on the front of the enigne... There is a plug that looks like an oil fill cap, but this is just for checking the timing of the engine. Oil does not go in there.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips thank for answer🙌🙏
What epoxy did you use and where can I buy it? Could I also use west system or total boat?
I think the stuff I used was PTM&W, also called AEROPOXY. It is good if you are making something structural, but if you are using it as a coating, it has more of an amber or yellow tint than total boat or west systems. I think total boat is the cheapest, and if you are doing something that doesn't take a lot of strength, this will be fine... It may also be very strong, but I have not tested it for strength. If you are using it as a coating, it is also a good idea to get something that cures fairly quickly. The stuff that I used took too long to cure, but you can get different Part B types so make it cure faster or slower.
Wanna sell that solas pump? 140 mm 12 vane!?
I’ve actually installed it on my X2 since this video, and it lasted a few rides without issues, so no, haha.
Nice project! Wich ECU you were using?
The ECU that I am using is a PDCIS-32T.
Now you can possibly grease and oil the inner parts fully and or change out any old worn bearings internally to make below one thousand of a degree change if possible, some lathe machines require a oil change internally oiled drumed 🛢️... ⚖️
Yes... I have changed the oil on my lathe a few times. On this particular one, the oil is only for the gearbox, and the spindle bearings are oiled separately through fittings on the top of the lathe.
Top speed?
Tops speed of this Octane was around 53 MPH. We didn't GPS it, but my X2 runs 55, 56 and it was very close in a few side by side runs.
Dump it. And buy a sunnen an hone. You are a joke. Im a 40 year machinist.
What model it is please tell me?
Model of the car ? ... It's in the title of the video "Chevy Optra"
omg you have no idea how much this was driving me bananas like the past 6 months, i went to multiple shops and no one could help me!! that whole time it was just a busted piece of spring that i fished out in like 5 minutes without even needing to jack up my car 🙃
Haha... Nice !
My concentric slave has failed and I have removed all the necessary parts, but still the clutch bell will not come off. It's as though something's keep it together at the very bottom as at the top of the housing is completely apart. I have ten bolts removed from the housing yet I can't see anymore, is there something am missing?
Hopefully you got this sorted out by now. If you have all the bolts and mounts off, it should slide over...If you don't support the weight, it could jam on the shaft and get stuck, and there could be dowel pins holding it. Sometimes of you don't pull it out evenly (same rate on the top and bottom) then they can get stuck. you may have to push in on the top to get it to release at the bottom.
1200 RPM / bore diameter = Honing RPM & have the drill shaft parallel and not up at an angle as you are doing since it put forces in the angle you hold the shaft.
Thanks !
How do you get the clutch linkage clip off i can't see in the 1st video how you did it?
This was 10 years ago, so I don't really remember, but I talk about it a little at 5 mins and 58 seconds into part # 3
Joel, I can’t thank you enough for illustrating this process. I have a wood lathe. I have always felt that there is a slight bit of vibration imbued in my work by my lathe and not by the workpiece. This gives me a means for a quantitative analysis. Kudos!
Good stuff... ! I have heard that the website that I linked doesn't always work. If this is the case you can always use some trial and error... tho it will take a lot longer.
With your knowledge on Park Heaters why on earth don't you have one in the truck cab. DUDE!! Come on in temperatures like that have a back up plan, even a buddy heater. Oh ya, a split up? Sad news, I'm joining your Patreon club.
This footage is from a few years back. I didn't know parking heaters existed, at the time. I didn't make it clear in this video, but I did have a few back up plans. I had a backpack with sealed, dry cloths, stuff to start a fire, a generator in the back of my truck with an electric blanket, a battery charger for my truck and phone. As cold and reckless as this was, it seemed a lot worse. I had 7mm of neoprene covering me, as I was wearing two wetsuits, I had a 5mm hood and 5mm gloves. Even in the water, I wasn't cold and I had tested the suit weeks before to ensure I would be okay spending a lot of time in the water. Yeah. The split up has been a while coming. I am currently talking to a mortgage broker (just sent another email), and I should be able to afford to keep my house, though the mortgage will be more than 5x what I am currently paying. The whole this is sad and unfortunate... and Quasar, my cat, will be going with her, so that sucks as well. You must be Scott... thanks for your support both here, and on Patreon. Much appreciated !
Where is my son we nicknamed Chilly Willy after the little penguin !?!?!
Hello Mom ! Love you 😁. Still that same little boy, but sometimes my sense of adventure pushes me to be uncomfortable. I always tell people "I don't like the cold, or being wet, and especially don't like being cold and wet, so jet skiing is an odd choice ! " Truth be told, with good equipment, my face was cold and my fingers, if my gloves were off, but a neoprene wetsuit, that fits properly, goes a long way to staying warm.
is that legal since it's blocking the license plate?
I attach my plate to it when in use. I ended up welding on a bracket, after losing my plate while headed to the boarder... meaning I had to drive for 22 hours to go get a new plate, and back to the border. There are no lights on it, so I'm guessing any DOT officer or highway patrol could fine you if they wanted...They sell carriers for cargo, mobility scooters, motorcycles and work in the same way, often without plate mounts or lights.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips you can run some 12v lights off the trailer plug they probably make some lights that connect to it? Well I'll ask California chp if it's legal and if so I'll be making one for myself!
@@nayefalkurahi3357 Yeah... I have a plug (extension) on mine so that I can haul the jetski and a small trailer.... though, I've only done it a few times. It wouldn't be hard to put the necessary lights on it, to make it legal... But it's a good idea to check.
Theres one for sale around me and Its been on there for a while and I'm seriously thinking about just seeing what the guy is willing to negotiate.
Nice !
Awesome video. I love that you built this. I hate the repetitive background music (but that is just an issue I have with many videos).
Thanks for the comment. ... I definitely overdid it with the music on this one... not sure what I was thinking. Most of the time, I try to only use music to mask background noises or at a few key places in the video.
Hi Joel , I'm picking up a 1991 Sea-Doo 580cc "yellow" single carb . For $ 100 ran great in 2008 ... Lol What do you think ?
Haha... Nice !! I think you can't go wrong fro $100... Running great in 2008 doesn't give me much comfort 🤣but it's better than "it stopped with a soulden squeak in 2008 and has sat for 16 years.
I'm not even going to turn it over with a jumper pack ... Just bring it home ... Lol
@@Joe-hj6pg Rolling the dice, haha.
Thanks I have one similar. I like everything about it except the rubber platform bc it’s shedding. Do you know how I can replace it or what I can layer over it?
Sorry, I don't know where you would get an original replacement. Where I am you can get rubber mat like this from Industrial Paints and Plastics. After you install it, you may have to recalibrate the scale, depending on how accurate you need it to be.
So I can spend $500 on FB market place and a few hundred dollars in parts to rebuild a snowmobile crank that I normally have to pay a machine shop $1200 to have it done.
Yeah, if you are willing to put the time and effort in.
Oops ... I responded with my wrong account. It takes a fair amount of effort, but you can do it if you are willing to put in the work.
How do you make sure the pump and driveshaft are aligned?
I'm sure that there is a special tool for it, but I do it by installing the pump onto the shaft and then holding it up to the hull. There will be play in the spline area, so once it is in place, holding the pump against the mounting area, I pulldown on the back of the pump, and then pull down on the front, checking the gap between the mounting locations. If this is not fairly even, then shim until it is. Most that I have seen are pretty close, but some require quite a lot. It may also sometimes be necessary, or beneficial to check and align support bearing. You don't want to align the pump to then find out the engine and coupler are not aligned and have to start all over again.
@@JoelArseneaultRUclips thank you for the advice!
Yeah. Made all the mistakes I have. Really hard to figure out how much epoxy to mix up with infusion.
Yeah. Generally what happens to me is I get too caught up in the process, or excited about it, that I skip steps, like weighing the material. I have actually had pretty good luck all things considered, haha.

Geez bud, I feel like I'm watching Jack London on a jetski. I feel like the story "to start a fire" specifically, although that's just off the top of my head so maybe that's not what it's called. I'm sorry to hear you're going through a tough spot. I hope things go well for you, let me know if I can do anything to help. Love you bud, which is also what made the ice jet skiing more scary.
I knew the name Jack London, but honestly I had to look it up to refresh my memory... Like a leaky sieve. Maybe it's mush from being frozen... Still, I appreciate the sentiment, haha ! Thanks for the kind words ! We will get through this, right. Yeah, you don't want to see those you care about getting hurt... I did take a LOT of precautions that weren't obvious in the video, but was still was a little reckless.
QUACK! You're wild. Good for you. 🦆
🤟 Thanks !
Sorry to hear about your situation Joel. I'd offer to help but live across the border in Idaho so probably wouldn't work out. Stay optimistic, ups and downs in life, but I'm rooting for you to pull through this one quickly.
Thanks for the comment / support Cody ! I appreciate it.
This is great! I'm going to be attempting this with a 250 single so it should be substantially easier. I'm starting to think I might be able to do this correctly.
You got this ! Take lots of measurements before you get started and remember that you can always start over if you need to. Take your time and you'll get it.
